Time for a Peek Into Our Week at The Strong Home! Lately, we’ve been really enjoying exploring spots that are normally crawling with tourists. Right now most of those places are pretty empty due to the 14-day quarantine requirement for anyone coming to the islands. It’s heartbreaking for the economy, but it’s fun for kama’aina (locals) to explore places we’d usually never go when they’re crawling with tourists! Now that the beaches and trails are closed again, we have just been venturing out a little to eat out every now and then. Here are some highlights of our stops over the past two weeks.
We live about ten minutes from Waikiki Beach, but this was our first time to eat at Duke’s, an iconic restaurant named after the famous Hawaiian surfer, Duke Kahanamoku. We sat outside and enjoyed some really good company and some live music by local legend, Henry Kapono, then walked on the beach to watch the sunset. I wore a lei that I’d been given that morning to celebrate our one-year anniversary at University Avenue Baptist Church and it just felt like quintessential Hawaii.
Katie and Kylie asked for a Mommy-Daughter-Date, so I obliged the first chance I got. We got dressed up and went down to Waikiki to eat at The Cheesecake Factory. These two are turning into really cool people.
On Thursday afternoon when Chris finished up at the office, we took off for the North Shore. It was nice to get out of the house and see the mountains, pineapple fields, and rainbows along the way. The shave ice at Matsumoto’s was a fun treat too!
Chris and I found a fun Waikiki restaurant for our date night on Friday called The Yard House. We didn’t take any pictures because we were too busy just enjoying time with each other, but it’s definitely a place we’ll visit again.
And because you know I like to keep it real, most of our week at The Strong Home wasn’t documented with pictures because it was full of things like work, laundry, and dishes, dishes, dishes. (We’re waiting on a new dishwasher so the dishes never end!) The kids fought a lot this week. I cried. My husband worked late. It’s hot in the house. Everybody is getting really tired of being mostly stuck at home. This is real life here and it’s only the highlights that get documented with photos. This week my goal is to take pictures of real life stuff so that I can remember the beauty in the ordinary moments.
If you missed my post on my breakup with Jen Hatmaker, be sure to check it out! If you shared it on Facebook – thanks! Every time you share a post from The Strong Home, an angel gets its wings and I do a little happy dance because it helps grow my audience. Aloha y’all!
