Aloha, y’all! I’m Amber and I’m a pastor’s wife and mom of six, living, working, and writing in Honolulu, Hawaii. I’ve made it my mission to encourage you, beautiful readers, as you create homes that are strong in the Lord’s awesome power. We’re so much better together, so I’m on a mission to equip strong women to build strong families in strong homes! Catch up on a few good things we’ve been talking about here at The Strong Home:

Three False Narratives Seeking to Manipulate You Right Now

The number one question I get asked is “What is a good Bible Study I can do on my own?” For a million different reasons, many of us aren’t able to go to an organized Bible study class right now. We are looking for Bible studies that we can do on our own at home that are theologically solid, inexpensive, and actually worth our time. But there are so many resources out there and it’s hard to know where to begin. So here’s a list of some that I’ve done and really loved.

Lord, Heal My Hurts by Kay Arthur

This one is an oldie but a goodie. It’s a 13-week devotional study that balances deep digging into the word with devotional thoughts by Kay. All you need to get started is the book and a Bible. There are no teaching videos for the course; everything is written in the book. There are even discussion questions in case you want to do this with a friend or a group, but you can also journal through those questions if you’re flying solo. This book will help you walk through any pain you’ve experienced, with your feet firmly planted on the word of God.

Engaging God’s Word by Community Bible Study

If you’re looking for something pretty simple to guide you through your study of the Bible, this one is the perfect fit! There are lots of different studies to choose from, each one covering a different book of the Bible. Each of the 12 lessons has 13-17 questions that guide you through a portion of the book you’re studying. Then there’s a commentary portion that goes along with each lesson that gives you a little more insight. This was designed to be used in a Community Bible Study group and you could certainly get connected with a group if you’d like! But the books are also great as stand-alone study guides for Scripture!

No Other Gods: Confronting our modern day idols by Kelly Minter

This study is for you if you prefer a topical Bible study with video-based teaching. Kelly Minter has several Bible studies that have released since this one, but this will always be a favorite of mine. There are eight weeks of lessons that you can complete on your own. A leader guide is included in the back in case you’re studying with a group each week. I’ve found that purchasing through Lifeway is the cheapest way to get your hands on the audio or video portion of this study. You can download whichever style you prefer and you can purchase or rent the teaching sessions. The least expensive and fastest way to get the book in your hands is by clicking on this link:

James: Living a Life of Genuine Faith by Jen Wilkin

Did somebody say FREE??? This is one of the best deals you can find for individual Bible study. Jen is a master teacher and I love that she offers free downloadable studies for women. You’ll have to print this one out on your own, but trust me, it’s worth it! You’ll be able to access the audio teaching on pod bean and it’s a perfect complement to the daily lessons. This one is for women who want to dig deep into God’s Word and are willing to spend the time it takes to do it. Highly recommend!

Seamless: Understanding the Bible as One Complete Story by Angie Smith

This study by Angie Smith helps women see the beautiful thread that runs through the entire story of Scripture: Jesus Christ. There are seven sessions including daily homework, weekly commentary, group discussion questions, and weekly teaching time. It’s a great overview of Scripture that even the most hard-core students of God’s word can benefit from. You can purchase or rent the audio or video teaching from Lifeway, but the quickest and cheapest way to get your book is through this link!

Entrusted: A Study of 2 Timothy by Beth Moore

Last but oh-so-definitely not least, is this amazing study by Beth Moore. I recommend this one for any of you who are in any kind of ministry, but honestly, it’s great for any woman, anywhere, who offers her life to God by doing what He has placed in front of her. This study is an absolute must-do, but it’s not for the faint-of-heart. There are five full weeks of homework that will throw you in the deep end of Bible study, but she offers five different levels of participation from which you can choose, ranging from simple to complex. Like all Lifeway studies, you can rent or purchase the audio or video sessions to get access to the teaching. The cheapest and fastest way to pick up the book is through this link!
